Cláudio Julio Lopes received his dental degree from UNICID School of Dentistry in Sáo Paulo, in 1989, and has obtained his specialty training in Periodontics in 1992, and has worked in private practice since. He is currently the coordinator of Periodontal Plastic Surgery and Introduction to Periodontal Microsurgery Program at Sáo Paulo Dental Association. Besides the private practice, his activities concentrate on teaching microsurgery principles for Implants, Endodontics and Periodontics.
In this lecture, the principles of periodontal plastic microsurgery, such as: first-intention healing, delicate tissue manipulation and precise technical performance (which are also applicable to peri-implant surgical techniques), will be discussed. Throughout the presentation, all aspects of the step-by-step surgical protocol will be detailed: the preparation of the recipient area, micro-incisions, flap preparation, graft harvesting and the geometry of microsuturing. Based on these biological aspects and combining precision and magnification, the surgeon will be able to achieve more predictable and aesthetic results.
